Introduction to Ice Hockey

Ice hockey originated in Canada in the 19th century. After more than a century of development, it has become one of the most popular ice sports in the world. Compared with other ice sports, ice hockey pays more attention to teamwork and physical confrontation. It not only tests the speed, explosiveness and endurance of players, but also requires good tactical awareness and tacit cooperation.

Basic rules of ice hockey

Ice hockey is an extremely exciting ice sport with a detailed set of rules. Here I will introduce some basic rules of ice hockey games:

Pitch and goal

The game is played on a rectangular ice hockey rink with a size of 60 meters x 30 meters.

The goal gate is located at both ends of the rink, 1.22 meters from the ground, 1.83 meters wide and 1.22 meters high.

Players and substitutions

Each team consists of 6 players, including 1 goalkeeper, 2 forwards, 2 defenders and 1 midfielder.

Players can make substitutions freely during the game, but they must be made in the designated substitution area.

Game time

A hockey game is divided into 3 20-minute quarters, with a 10-minute break in between.

If the game is tied during regular time, extra time will be required until the winner is determined.

Goals and Scoring

When the ball crosses the goal line and enters the goal, 1 point is scored.

In the game, whichever side accumulates more goals will win.

Fouls and Penalties

Any violation of the rules will be judged as a foul, and different penalties will be given depending on the severity, such as a minor penalty of 2 minutes, a major penalty of 5 minutes, or even expulsion.

Severe fouls may be judged as misconduct or match penalty, depending on the referee's judgment.
